Laying a Solid Foundation
UC Davis boasts a wealth of opportunities for undergraduate students with an interest in the mind and brain. There are degree and course options in areas of Psychology, Human Development, Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Neuroscience and more. These programs are highly popular, where total enrollment for 2 of the 6 core programs ranked among the top 10 majors at UC Davis. These programs also attract a diverse student body, with 3 of 6 core programs ranking among the top 10 programs for percent of enrolled underrepresented minorities and first-gen students. Therefore, students will find rich and ample opportunities to gain an appreciation of brain physiology, biology, function, behavior and control. Many Consortium members are instructors for these foundational courses and are passionate about advancing knowledge to the next generation of exceptional scientists.
Students are encouraged to participate in mentored research in many of the Consortium laboratories and may be eligible for course credit through their department. There are also a number of specialized training and research programs available, with at least 6 that are especially devoted to the success of underrepresented students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). At UC Davis we believe that true innovation happens through collaboration and inclusivity across disciplines and diverse perspectives. That's why we're committed to improving access, enhancing mentorship and promoting the advancement of underrepresented groups in STEM. This commitment is reflected by strong national rankings in areas such as diversity and inclusivity, social mobility and women in STEM.
